Job Title: Personal Support Worker (PSW)

Position Overview: We are seeking compassionate, reliable Personal Support Workers to deliver in-home care to seniors and adults with disabilities throughout the Niagara Region. The PSW will provide personal and domestic support, companionship, and assistance with activities of daily living while promoting client independence and safety in their own homes.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, mobility assistance, and transfers (using appropriate lifting aids).
Provide medication reminders and assist with simple medication management as per agency policy.
Support clients with meal planning, preparation and feeding assistance when required; monitor nutritional intake and report concerns.
Perform light housekeeping tasks related to client care: laundry, dishwashing, making beds, vacuuming and maintaining a safe, sanitary living environment.
Accompany clients to appointments, social outings and errands; provide transportation or support using client or agency-arranged transportation.
Provide companionship, conversation, emotional support and engagement in social/recreational activities to promote mental well-being.
Observe and report changes in client health status, behaviour or living conditions to the Client Care Coordinator or supervisor; document care accurately and timely in client records.
Follow individualized care plans, client preferences, cultural and religious considerations, and family directions where appropriate.
Adhere to infection control practices, health and safety policies, and confidentiality requirements (PHIPA).
Attend training sessions, team meetings and participate in care planning as required.
Qualifications
Valid Personal Support Worker certificate/diploma from an accredited Ontario program.
Current registration with any applicable provincial body (if required).
Minimum 1 year recent experience in home care, long-term care, retirement residences or community support preferred.
Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
Up-to-date immunizations as required by agency policy (e.g., influenza, COVID-19) and TB screening.
Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check (within agency timeframe) and ability to maintain clean criminal record.
Valid Ontario driver’s licence, reliable vehicle and proof of insurance preferred for clients requiring transportation.
Strong interpersonal skills, patience, cultural sensitivity and ability to work independently.
Good observation and documentation skills; basic computer or mobile device literacy for electronic charting is an asset.
Working Conditions
Work primarily in client homes across the Niagara Region; some assignments may include retirement homes or community settings.
Shifts include days, evenings, overnight, weekends and statutory holidays depending on client needs.
Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting and transferring clients (use of mechanical lifts when available).
Travel between client locations; mileage reimbursement provided per agency policy when using personal vehicle.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly pay: $18–$25, depending on experience and skills.
